Prayer Angels for our Military

We started out as a handful of women supporting our children and husbands in the first deployment to Iraq in 2003. Almost immediately they gave us the names of other Marines and soldiers who also needed our prayers and support. After that, the list just kept growing. Our group of supporters grew, too, and Prayer Angels for the Military was officially founded July 14, 2004.

Being in existence less than two years, Prayer Angels for the Military has accomplished quite a lot. We have supported an Army National Guard group of more than 45 men and women in Camp Scania, Iraq, and received the citation of Home Town Heroes. We were in San Bernardino to welcome them home in February, 2005. We have also supported a group of more than 90 Marines in Fallujah, Iraq, and were on hand for their homecoming in Miramar in March, 2005. At our HEROES’ DAY, honoring the Troops, held September 11, 2005, we received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon. This event was attended by Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth and Councilmembers Marsh McLean and Bob Kellar who helped us and the community make and sign 1000 cards for the Troops.

With prayers and mail, we currently support approximately 700 Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of deployment. They are all in our hearts and prayers and we will continue to support them until they all come home.

Our approximately 25 members include wives, mothers, fathers, family and friends of military personnel (some of whom are currently deployed overseas), veterans’ wives and others who share the same passion of praying for and supporting our Troops. Schools, churches, employee groups, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Boys’ and Girls’ Club and other youth groups continue to join us in our card and letter writing efforts to boost the morale of our Troops overseas and in hospitals.

We meet formally twice a month (on the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesdays) to pray, hand make cards, write letters, share Troop concerns and schedule care packaging days and upcoming events. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated for care packaging days and event participation and are welcome to join us at our meetings.
